Care
Welcome our new Director of Finance, Georgia Reynolds!

The maxim “When God closes a door, he opens a window” is evident in the transition of Finance Directors from Martie to Georgia. Georgia and her husband, Dennis, began attending worship at our church just before Easter this spring. Dennis’ job setting up radio transmission for the State Patrol moved them from the Milwaukee area to Wausau in 2021. Georgia is also working half-time in office administration for the Rothschild police department while finishing her bachelor’s degree in accounting. Georgia and Dennis live east of Wausau in the country with their dog and two cats, and they welcome our prayers for future children.
After trying out several churches, they decided First Wausau UMC was the best fit. Georgia’s grandfather had brought her to his UMC in Cedar Rapids, Iowa when she was young, and they both resonate with our theology and music. When Martie decided she needed to resign to move and take care of her parents, she immediately thought of Georgia’s accounting skills. There is a lot of specific training for our church software and protocols, and Georgia was willing to be trained by Martie. Georgia learned very quickly, and she is getting things more organized and efficient than ever in this 10-15 hour/week position. Georgia’s half-time job at the police station is during the same hours as our church office hours, so she will be coming in at other times. Please help welcome, thank, and pray for Georgia and Dennis. We are all grateful for God opening this window. Her contact info is: 414-419-6683 (preferred method) and email (soon to be activated) georgia@firstwausau.org.

Coffee Fellowship Needs Your Help
Coffee Fellowship has once again become a special part of Sundays at church! We would like to thank everyone who has already volunteered to host this fall and winter. Mike and Liz Fischer, Coffee Fellowship Directors, are continuing to look for
volunteers to host 1 or more Sunday Coffee Fellowships after the 10 am service in the Parlor. It is a great way to interact socially with your church family, meet new members, celebrate birthdays and anniversaries. If you are interested, there is a
sign-up sheet on the serving table in the Parlor.
Here's all you would need to do:
- Make a couple of pots of coffee. The directions are on the coffee cart next to the coffee maker.
- Bring cookies, donut holes, bars or other treats to donate for about 30 - 40 people, as well as some gluten-free treats (or find these in the freezer).
- Food can be homemade or from a store.
- Serve the treats. There are paper serving boats, paper plates and napkins on the coffee tray, along with the gluten-free sign to display by those treats.
- Put any dirty dishes and cups on the cart to the left of the coffee maker. No need to wash them, as they will be taken care of on Monday. Thanks, Andy!
- There is a donation basket on the serving table. Please put any money donated in an envelope and put it in the mail slot on the church office door.
Please consider signing up to host (by yourself or with someone else). It is a great way to fellowship with your church family and provide an important service to others. Feel free to call us at 715/571-0489 with any questions.

Community Dinner
The community dinner is a meaningful ministry where we are able to offer meals to anyone in the community.
We are offering boxed meals and handing them out in the parking lot of the First Presbyterian Church. If you want to get involved, we will be needing baked goods to add to the meal. Please contact Jen Johnson at 715-470-2527 and she will arrange a time to pick up any baked goods. Please also keep our dinner guests in your prayers.
Thank you!
First Wausau MC Tumblers
These stainless-steel tumblers hold 12 ounces, keep drinks hot or cold, and make great gifts and help us get the word out about our church! You can buy them for $7 each (at cost, no profit) in the office Monday-Thursday. And they are available in the Parlor on Sunday mornings.

In Sympathy...
Please pray for Martie Pahris and her family as they grieve the loss of her father. Lt. Col. James Michael Pahris, USA, Retired; Minister of Education; train enthusiast, and longtime resident of Jonesborough, passed away on August 29, 2023, just shy of the age 84, surrounded by family.

Fall Rummage Sale-United Women in Faith
The United Women in Faith will be putting together another rummage sale this fall. This has proven to be a good way for the group to raise funds for the missions work they are involved in. The sale is tentatively scheduled for Thursday and Friday, October 5 and 6, 2023. Donations for the sale are very welcome at any time and may be placed on the stage in Fellowship Hall. Please make sure the donations you bring are free of mold/mildew and are free of that “basement smell”. The UWF also will not be selling any clothing items. If you have any questions, please ask Sara Koss, Sharon Gisselman, or Bonnie Goertz.

Savvy Seniors will be meeting on Monday September 11th, at 11:30 at Tequila Salsa in Rib Mountain. This is a social group open to singles & couples over 55. We would love to have you join us! Any questions, call Vicki Nowaczk at 715-571-3009. Thank you.

Cultural Orientation and English Language Learning for Refugees
On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays several rooms upstairs are being used to welcome dozens of new Afghan refugees. Classes are from 10-11:30 and 12:30-2 for adults, and their pre-school children enjoy playing nearby. New Beginnings for Refugees is overseeing these educational programs, with Mary Testin as the Coordinator. There are over 40 fully-vetted and trained volunteer teachers for English Language Learners (ELL). They also could use some volunteers (with back ground checks) to help with caring for and inspiring the preschoolers. Please contact Mary at 715-581-8111 if you're interested in helping.
